Tanah Lot which means "Land in the Sea" is located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres Northwest of Denpasar. This holy temple is highly regarded as one of the Bali’s landmark due to its best sunset views and unique location that sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped over the years by the ocean tide.

Built in the 16th-century as a shrine to worship the Balinese sea god or sea power, this temple is one of seven sea temples around the coast of Bali. Each of the sea temples was established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast.
